The Federal Road Safety Corps, Akwa Ibom Command, announced that it had booked 51 traffic offenders during a special patrol operation carried out in celebration of Eid‑el‑Kabir.
Sector Commander Mrs Felicia Kalu, who led the operation, said on Saturday that the patrol was designed to reduce road crashes during the festivities.
According to Kalu, the command organized the special patrol with dedicated marshals who focused on critical traffic offences that could lead to accidents.
“The offences targeted include driving against traffic, speeding, overloading, dangerous driving or overtaking, distracted driving, use of a cell phone while driving, and tyre violations, among others,” Kalu said.
“During the operation, a total of 51 critical offences were recorded. Minor offenders were cautioned and warned to desist from violating road traffic rules and regulations,” she added.
The sector commander urged drivers and motorists to avoid any actions that compromise the safety of other road users.
She noted that the command had deployed sufficient human and material resources to enforce traffic laws effectively, provide prompt rescue services, remove obstructions, and manage traffic control.
She expressed concern over the increasing incidence of ‘wrong‑way’ driving and other reckless practices on major routes in the state, describing them as serious dangers to motorists and pedestrians.
