Poland fell 2–0 to Ukraine in a friendly match in Wrocław on Sunday, with both goals coming before halftime.
The defeat marked the second consecutive loss for the Poles, following a 3–2 loss to Sweden in a World Cup qualifying playoff in March.
Roman Yaremchuk opened the scoring from distance in the 34th minute, and Andriy Yarmolenko added a second ten minutes later.
The match carried special emotional significance, as it was Poland’s first game after the sudden death of assistant coach Jacek Magiera on 10 April at the age of 49. Players wore shirts with his photograph during the warm‑up, a shirt was placed on an empty seat beside head coach Jan Urban on the bench for the duration of the game, and supporters paid tribute with a minute of loud applause before kickoff.
Robert Lewandowski made his 166th appearance for Poland – a national record – and remains the country’s all‑time leading scorer with 89 goals.
Poland will look to regain winning form when they face Nigeria’s Super Eagles in another friendly in Warsaw. The last encounter between the two sides was a 1–0 victory for the Super Eagles in 2018. Nigeria enters the match on a high after securing the Unity Cup with a 3–0 win over Jamaica in the final on Saturday.
