Fire destroys vehicle parked at Polaris Tower in Lagos

A stationary saloon car was destroyed by fire at the Polaris Bank Tower on Lagos Island on Thursday, prompting an emergency response from the State Fire and Rescue Service.

The incident took place on the third floor of the 17‑storey building at 61/65 Broad Street, which also functions as a parking facility.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said it received the distress call at about 11:33 a.m., and firefighters from the Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu Fire Stations were dispatched immediately.

According to the agency, the responders quickly contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other vehicles or other parts of the building.

“The incident was reported at approximately 11:33 hours and involved a stationary saloon car parked on the 3rd floor of the 17‑storey building, which serves as a parking facility.”

The fire service said the prompt intervention averted a more serious incident in the busy commercial district.

“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has successfully extinguished a fire outbreak that occurred on the 3rd floor of the Polaris Bank Building, located at 61/65 Broad Street, Lagos Island,” the statement said.

Authorities confirmed that the damage was limited to the affected vehicle and its immediate surroundings.

“The only damage recorded was to the affected vehicle and its immediate surroundings. No casualties or injuries were reported.”

The agency added that the operation was successfully concluded and normal activities have resumed in the area.

“The firefighting operation has been successfully concluded, and normalcy has been fully restored to the area.”
