The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has dismissed the South African Football Association’s appeal concerning the three‑match suspension of Bafana Bafana midfielder Themba Zwane.
SAFA announced the decision in a statement posted on its website on Thursday.
Zwane is serving the three‑match ban imposed by the FIFA disciplinary committee after receiving a red card in the 2026 FIFA World Cup opening match against co‑host Mexico last week.
“We are disappointed with the outcome of our appeal because we strongly believe that the punishment is far harsher than the offense that Themba is said to have committed,” SAFA said in a statement.
Zwane will miss his final match when Bafana Bafana play co‑host Canada in the Round of 32 in Los Angeles on Sunday, 28 June 2026.

Midfielder Teboho Mokoena has returned to the squad after serving a one‑match suspension incurred in the game against South Korea.
Bafana Bafana returned to their base camp in Pachuca, Mexico, this morning before traveling to Los Angeles, United States, ahead of the Round of 32 clash with Canada.
The Hugo Broos side secured its first World Cup knockout‑round qualification with a hard‑fought 1‑0 victory over South Korea.
The result left Bafana Bafana in second place in Group A, behind co‑host Mexico, who defeated the Czech Republic 3‑0 to record three wins from three matches.
