Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza, the Catholic Bishop of Yola, has stated that the Federal Government is falling short in its efforts to reduce insecurity across the country.
As the former chairman of Adamawa State’s Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) chapter, Mamza noted that the Federal Government has not yet demonstrated enough political will to resolve ongoing security challenges.
After leading the closing Mass of the 2026 Yola Diocesan Pastoral Council, Mamza spoke to journalists and voiced deep concern about ongoing killings, kidnappings, banditry, and community attacks.
He added that, despite frequent assurances from government officials, the security situation in numerous regions remains troubling.
“The government must go beyond promises and take decisive action to address the security challenges confronting the nation,” the bishop said.
He asserted that safeguarding Nigerians must be the administration’s top priority, adding, “We are tired of failed promises.”
He urged security agencies to enhance intelligence gathering and to improve the welfare of security personnel to increase operational effectiveness.
