Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged as an early frontrunner in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary, having won in five states where results have been released so far.
Atiku’s victories came in Sokoto, Abia, Gombe, Ebonyi and Zamfara, putting him ahead of other candidates, including former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and economist Mohammed Hayatu‑Deen.
Although the ADC national leadership has not yet issued an official collated result, the figures reported here come from party officials and state collation centres.
In Gombe State, Atiku received 139,334 votes, while Amaechi garnered 1,150 and Hayatu‑Deen 464. In Abia, Atiku scored 25,153 votes, compared with Amaechi’s 18,339 and Hayatu‑Deen’s 3,264.
Ebonyi results showed Atiku with 15,300 votes; Amaechi and Hayatu‑Deen received 2,200 and 200 votes respectively. In Sokoto, Atiku secured 69,431 votes, whereas Amaechi and Hayatu‑Deen obtained 292 and 319 votes. Zamfara also favored Atiku, who polled 60,500 votes against Hayatu‑Deen’s 436 and Amaechi’s 191.
The primary will ultimately determine the ADC’s candidate for the 2027 general election.
