Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has dismissed reports of school kidnappings in parts of the state, assuring residents that adequate measures have been put in place to protect schools and other public institutions.

The clarification was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, and published on the Osun State Government’s official website on Tuesday.

According to the statement, security assessments conducted across border communities and other parts of the state found no evidence of any school kidnapping incident.

Adeleke urged residents to disregard what he described as false reports and continue with their normal activities without fear.

“I task our people to go about their normal activities without fear. Our government has taken steps to secure our schools. The Ministry of Education and the relevant security agencies have worked out a security strategy that is being implemented,” the governor said.

The governor also appealed to parents and guardians not to panic, maintaining that the reports were unfounded.

The statement further disclosed that Armoured Personnel Carriers, APCs, inherited by the administration and later refurbished, are ready for deployment to support security operations across the state.

The governor said the vehicles were inherited in a non-operational condition and have since been rehabilitated for use by security agencies.

“My government has rehabilitated them and the public will soon witness a new security plan to strengthen the security of lives and properties in Osun State,” the governor stated.

He added that security agencies and local intelligence networks have continued to monitor border communities and other areas considered vulnerable to security threats.
