Abia APC rejects claim that 7,000 members defected to the Labour Party

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has denied media reports that more than 7,000 of its members and supporters have defected to the Labour Party (LP), calling the allegations exaggerated and politically insignificant.

The party maintains that the claim does not reflect its real standing in the state.

The response came after reports that former APC National Executive Committee member Nduka Anyanwu said that more than 7,000 supporters had joined him in the Labour Party within the state.

Anyanwu reportedly made the statement while hosting a visit from the Labour Party’s State Executive Committee (SEC), headed by State Chairman Peter Azubuike, at his Umuahia residence.

In response, APC spokesperson Uche Aguoru issued a press statement to journalists, labeling the figure as inaccurate and asserting that Anyanwu’s exit would not weaken the party’s prospects.

He added that the former official’s defection would not impact the party’s preparations or future electoral ambitions.

State APC leadership also criticized Anyanwu’s former role in the party and questioned his political influence in the state.

Aguoru accused the former official of being linked to actions that undermined the party’s performance in previous election cycles.

He further alleged that Anyanwu acted against the party’s interests in earlier state contests.

The spokesperson claimed that Anyanwu’s political activities contributed to challenges the party faced in earlier attempts to strengthen its electoral position.
