US envoy Steve Witkoff was reportedly traveling to Switzerland for talks, according to American media outlets on Friday. The trip follows the postponement of scheduled negotiations between the United States and Iran that were set to take place in the Alpine country.
Axios cited an unnamed US official who said Witkoff was en route to Switzerland on Friday.
The visit comes as Washington and Iran work to resume technical discussions after an initial peace agreement was “back on track,” CNN reported, citing a US official.
Trump’s former envoy Jared Kushner was also expected to be in Switzerland for talks, CNN said, while Axios reported that he was already there.
It is not yet known whether Witkoff will meet with any Iranian officials.
Vice President JD Vance was initially expected to travel but postponed his trip, the White House announced late Thursday.
The US‑Iran talks scheduled for Friday were intended to build on the agreement to end the Middle East conflict and move toward a lasting settlement.
No new date for the negotiations has been announced.
The conflict began on February 28 with US‑Israeli strikes that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
