President Donald Trump has stated that Israel would not exist without the United States.
Trump made the comment on Tuesday during a briefing with reporters at the G7 summit in France.
He added that the United States is essential to Israel’s survival and criticized the Obama‑era Iran nuclear deal, blaming it for the current crisis in the Middle East.
According to Trump, the United States has maintained a highly effective relationship with Israel, but he urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to take greater responsibility regarding Lebanon.
“We’ve had a very effective relationship. Without the United States, there would be no Israel. Without me, there would be no Israel, because no other president was willing to do what I did,” he said.
The Republican also remarked that Lebanon was once a prosperous nation with many professors, doctors, and lawyers, but now it is plagued by Hezbollah.
Trump reiterated that, among all countries, Lebanon has suffered the most.
“The great intellect was in Lebanon. Now it’s just… it’s terrible. They can’t defend themselves,” Trump said.
