During Operation Fansan Yamma, Nigerian troops eliminated bandits and destroyed their hideouts in the highlands along the Zamfara border, near Dangulbi and Kurawa villages in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
A confidential security source informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Sokoto of the operation’s major successes.
The source, who requested anonymity, said several bandits, including key leaders, were killed while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
He added that the operation took place on June 4, in partnership with other security agencies and local vigilantes, and that the tempo would be maintained.
“The swift response, professionalism, and courage displayed by our military personnel averted what could have been a tragic incident,” the source said. “Let me once again reaffirm our commitment to protecting the lives and property of the citizenry.”
“The army engaged them in a fierce battle. The bandits later retreated and fled into forests in neighbouring states,” he continued. “Soldiers also recovered several weapons and motorcycles,” the source confirmed.
Although not authorised to speak on the matter, the source revealed that the terrorists suffered heavy losses and that the operation was carried out by personnel of 8 Division, Operation Fansan Yamma.
NAN reports that the Special Adviser to Gov. Ahmad Aliyu on Security Matters, retired Col. Ahmad Usman, and other citizens praised the Nigerian Army for the significant successes recorded against bandits in the state. (NAN)
