Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck has attracted criticism after declaring that “Hip Hop is dead.”
The artist, known for his “Declan Rice” track, repeated a sentiment popularized by Wizkid, suggesting that hip‑hop music has lost relevance.
Odumodublvck made the remark while commenting on a list of Nigerian artists with the highest monthly listeners on Spotify, posted on X. He noted the absence of Nigerian rappers from the list and said, “Hip Hop is dead.”
The statement sparked a divided response. Some listeners accused him of disrespecting the genre, while others argued that hip‑hop remains influential outside Nigeria.
In the current Spotify rankings, Nigerian rappers are not represented in the top ten. The list is dominated by singers:
