President Vladimir Putin has instructed the heads of special services and law‑enforcement agencies to strengthen counter‑terrorism measures and overall security within Russia’s educational and social infrastructure.
The directive was issued on Wednesday during a meeting with senior government officials, during which Putin emphasized that the health and wellbeing of children remains a national priority.
“Carry out the relevant work without delay,” the president said. “We must ensure reliable protection of children’s centres, camps, and health resorts.”
Putin noted that children and young people are the nation’s future and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to their needs amid what he described as external “temporary challenges.”
The president warned that adversaries continue to “resort to terrorist methods,” citing the drone attack on the student dormitory of the Lugansk Pedagogical University in Starobelsk.
The drone strike, which occurred on May 22, led to Russia’s recent aerial assault on Ukraine, considered the largest air attack on Kyiv since the war began.
Putin criticized “sponsors of the Kyiv regime, the European ruling elites” for imposing sanctions on organisations where children spend the summer.
The president called the restrictive measures “utter nonsense and sheer absurdity,” adding that he does not understand their purpose.
“Do they intend to restrict the work of children’s centres?” he asked. “This is a manifestation of sheer feeble‑mindedness, an attempt to perpetrate yet another petty act of spite.”
