When conversations about the future of transportation come up, they often centre on the vehicles themselves: electric cars, hybrid technology, longer driving ranges, and smarter features. However, the future of mobility is about much more than what people drive. It is about the infrastructure that supports ownership, like the confidence customers have in new technology. The availability of skilled technicians, genuine spare parts, dependable after-sales service and trusted local partners who understand the realities of the market.
That broader vision was at the heart of TIM Motors’ official launch of the Geely Galaxy lineup in Nigeria, where the company unveiled three new-energy vehicles, the Geely EX5, Geely EX5 EM-i and Geely EX2, under the theme “Powering the Future.” While the event introduced Nigerian consumers to one of the world’s fastest-growing new-energy vehicle brands, it also made something equally clear: TIM Motors is not simply introducing new cars into the market. It is clearly investing in the future of mobility in Nigeria because Nigeria’s automotive landscape is evolving rapidly.
Vehicle ownership has become increasingly shaped by rising fuel prices, higher maintenance costs, and other economic realities contributing to the growing need for efficiency, encouraging consumers to look beyond traditional motoring. At the same time, a younger, more technology-conscious generation of drivers is redefining what they expect from a vehicle, since connectivity, intelligent safety systems, lower operating costs and everyday convenience have become just as important as performance and design.
These shifts are creating an environment where hybrid and electric vehicles are becoming less of a curiosity and more of a practical consideration.

Speaking during the launch event, Leon Zhan, General Manager of the Passenger Vehicle Business Unit at TIM International, described Nigeria as one of Africa’s most promising markets for this transition.
“Many people have asked me, ‘Why Nigeria?’ The answer is very simple. Because Nigeria is one of the most dynamic, entrepreneurial and promising markets in Africa. It is a country full of energy, ambition, and full of opportunities.”
According to him, mobility should grow alongside that ambition by making everyday transportation more efficient, more intelligent and more accessible. One of the most striking aspects of TIM Motors’ market entry is that the company chose to build its support network before launching its vehicles. Instead of simply importing products and hoping the market would respond, the company spent approximately eighteen months preparing for long-term operations in Nigeria.
That preparation included establishing a modern showroom in Lagos, investing in after-sales infrastructure, stocking genuine spare parts, equipping service workshops with advanced diagnostic tools, training local technicians and building a customer support system designed to provide confidence long after purchase.
One of the defining strengths of the Geely Galaxy lineup is that it recognises there is no single path to the future of mobility. Some Nigerian motorists are ready to make the leap to fully electric driving. Others want to embrace cleaner, more efficient mobility while maintaining the reassurance of a petrol engine for longer journeys, and rather than forcing drivers to choose one over the other, TIM Motors has introduced a portfolio that meets Nigerians wherever they are on that journey.

Leading that transition is the Geely EX5 EM-i, a plug-in hybrid SUV designed for family life, business travel and everything in between. With a combined driving range of up to 1,000 kilometres, an 83-kilometre pure electric range for shorter everyday commutes, and fuel consumption as low as 4.3 litres per 100 kilometres when operating on a low battery, the EX5 EM-i is engineered to help drivers spend less time at the fuel station and more time on the road. It is a practical solution for professionals commuting across Lagos during the week, entrepreneurs travelling between cities, and families heading out for weekend trips without constantly thinking about refuelling. The 1,000 kilometres range has been hyped as “super-impressive” given the context that driving from Lagos to Abuja is 768 kilometres.
Comfort is equally central to the driving experience. The EX5 EM-i’s minimalist cabin is built around a spacious interior with generous rear legroom and a flexible luggage compartment, making it just as capable of carrying business equipment as it is luggage for a family holiday. The technology inside the vehicle has also been designed to feel intuitive rather than overwhelming, with a 15.4-inch HD touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and voice control that keeps drivers connected on the move. Meanwhile, it also has a 15W wireless charging that ensures devices remain powered throughout your journey.
For passengers, every trip is designed to feel more enjoyable. A panoramic sunroof fills the cabin with natural light, while a 16-speaker premium audio system creates an immersive listening experience where every seat feels like the best seat in the car.
Beyond comfort, the EX5 EM-i has been engineered to inspire confidence in everyday driving. A 540-degree panoramic parking view makes navigating tight parking spaces and busy city streets significantly easier, while an intelligent suite of driver assistance technologies—including Collision Mitigation Support, Intelligent Cruise Control, Lane Change Assist and Low-Speed Emergency Braking—works quietly in the background to help drivers avoid potential hazards and navigate every journey with greater assurance.

In addition to the already stacked list of unique selling propositions, thanks to its Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, the EX5 EM-i can also supply power to external electrical devices, transforming the vehicle into a mobile power source during outdoor activities or unexpected power outages, a feature with particular relevance in a market where uninterrupted access to electricity can make all the difference.
Alongside the hybrid EX5 EM-i, TIM Motors also introduced the fully electric Geely EX5 for drivers ready to embrace all-electric mobility, and the compact Geely EX2, designed for efficient city driving without compromising on intelligent technology or everyday practicality.
Together, the three models reflect a simple belief that the future of mobility should offer Nigerians more choice, greater flexibility and technology that fits seamlessly into the way they already live and drive.
