Police in Ebonyi arrest self‑styled prophet after child‑abuse video goes viral

The Ebonyi State Police Command arrested Nwankpu James after a viral video showed the suspect handling a child abusively and inhumanely while the child lay on bare ground.

Commissioner of Police for Ebonyi State, Hope Urunwa Okafor, promptly ordered command operatives to apprehend the suspect and rescue the child.

Following the order, operatives located the suspect and the child’s parents in Isohumini Agbaja Community, Izzi Local Government Area, where they arrested the suspect and rescued the child.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, detailed these actions in a statement released on Tuesday to journalists in Abakaliki.

The suspect remains in custody while investigations continue.

The rescued child has been admitted to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki (FETHA) for urgent medical care.

The command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of all citizens, especially children, and issued a strong warning against any form of child abuse or inhumane conduct.
