The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has called for the immediate rescue of pupils and teachers who have been abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State by armed criminals.
Dr Ezechi Chukwu, National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, made the appeal in a statement released on Sunday in Enugu.
Chukwu noted that the killings of teachers during and after the attack have further underscored the severity of the incident.
He said that Ohanaeze received the news of the abduction of 39 pupils and seven teachers from schools in Oriire Council Area with profound shock and concern.
“The apex Igbo socio‑cultural organisation unequivocally condemns this barbaric and inhuman act, which represents a direct assault on innocent children, education, and the collective future of our nation,” Chukwu quoted President General Sen. Azuta Mbata.
Mbata said that the abduction of children from their schools was an attack on the hopes of families and the future of the nation.
He added that no society can make meaningful progress when its children live in fear and its schools become targets of violence.
“The immediate rescue of these innocent children and their teachers must be treated as a national priority,” Mbata said.
He expressed Ohanaeze’s heartfelt solidarity with the affected families, the Government, and the people of Oyo State.
“We call on the Federal Government, security agencies, and all relevant authorities to intensify efforts to ensure the immediate and safe release of all the victims and to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice,” the President General added.
“The protection of our children and educational institutions must remain a matter of urgent national concern,” he said.
