The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has responded to the Akwa Ibom State government’s payment of long‑delayed arrears owed to its members.

State NULGE president Anestina Iweh said in a statement on Wednesday that the settlement has brought relief to workers throughout the state.

According to DAILY POST, the state cleared the outstanding arrears after Governor Umo Eno approved the payment.

The union noted that the move has increased confidence in the government among employees who had waited years for the dues to be paid.

NULGE described the development as a major milestone in its efforts to strengthen the local government system and improve service delivery in Akwa Ibom.

“The successful payment of the outstanding arrears is a significant demonstration of the administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare and wellbeing,” the union said.

“The payment has restored confidence in government and renewed the morale of workers who patiently awaited the settlement of these outstanding obligations,” it added.
