At approximately 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, an armed attack on Angwan Magaji community in Kamaru Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killed nine people and injured 11 others. The community lies on the border with Plateau State.
According to Joseph Chudu Yonkpa, National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Youth Movement, the attackers entered the settlement and opened fire on residents. Yonkpa noted that most of the community’s inhabitants belong to the Irigwe ethnic group, whose origins trace back to Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The victims were identified as Jerry Doctor, 51; Danlami Magani, 49; Sunday Chibi, 53; Rita Abdullahi, 45; Sunday Elkan, 5; Esther Kefas, 5; Happy Friday, 6; Moses Daddy, 4; and Daddy Ibrahim, 28.
Eleven other residents sustained injuries of varying severity and are reportedly receiving medical care.
Danjuma Dickson Auta, National Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association, confirmed the incident and condemned the violence. He described the killings as “unfortunate” and urged security agencies to investigate promptly and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Auta also expressed concern over repeated attacks on local communities and called for strengthened security measures to protect lives and property. He appealed to government authorities at all levels to take urgent action to prevent further violence and restore confidence among residents, emphasizing that the tragedy has left the community in mourning and heightened calls for swift intervention.
