Band A electricity customers in the Jahi and Gwarimpa areas of Abuja are still experiencing extended outages, even though they pay the highest tariff rates.
According to the DAILY POST, the Gwarimpa AT2 feeder of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has been repeatedly blacked out for several days.
AEDC issued a notice on Tuesday attributing the outages to a failure of critical equipment in the transmission network operated by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
The company apologized to users for the prolonged power cuts and said that steps are being taken to resolve the issue.
“We sincerely apologize for the prolonged power outage experienced by customers served by the Gwarimpa AT2 feeder,” AEDC said. “We understand the inconvenience, disruption, and frustration this extended outage has caused to homes, businesses, and daily activities.”
The DAILY POST notes that Nigerians continue to confront irregular electricity supply long after the power sector was privatized.
In April 2024, electricity tariffs were increased by 300 percent for Band A customers.
