The Adamawa State Police Command has begun a statewide campaign targeting vehicles that lack registration plates or display concealed, altered, or defaced plates.
Spokesperson SP Suleiman Nguroje said the initiative follows a directive from the Inspector General of Police to enhance security and reduce crimes committed with unidentifiable vehicles.
Commissioner of Police CP Kabir Umar Hassan has created a special task force headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Abubakar Haruna. The unit is tasked with monitoring compliance and enforcing the directive throughout the state.
The police cited the increasing number of unregistered vehicles as a concern, noting that such cars are often used by criminals to avoid detection and commit offenses.
The task force is authorized to stop, inspect, and prosecute any vehicle found operating without valid registration plates or with tampered registration details.
Offending vehicles may be impounded and subjected to legal proceedings in accordance with existing laws.
The command urges motorists and vehicle owners to adhere to registration requirements and traffic regulations, warning that enforcement will be carried out without exception.
