The Federal Ministry of Works has declared that commercial motorcycles and tricycles will no longer operate on the Lagos‑Calabar Coastal Highway, a move intended to safeguard the newly built superhighway from misuse and early wear.

Federal Controller of Works for Lagos State, Olufemi Dare, announced the ban on Sunday, noting that it will become effective within the week.

Dare said the decision was essential to preserve the highway’s integrity and ensure its long‑term sustainability.

He warned that indiscriminate parking of trucks and articulated vehicles would no longer be tolerated on the coastal highway and its bridges throughout Lagos State.

The ministry also banned the indiscriminate dumping of refuse along highway corridors, calling the practice unacceptable and damaging to public infrastructure.

Dare warned that violators would face strict enforcement as authorities intensify efforts to maintain order and proper use of the facility.

He added that warning signage has already been installed along the highway and that task‑force officials will be posted at strategic points to enforce compliance.

Describing the Lagos‑Calabar Coastal Highway as a world‑class infrastructure project, the Federal Controller emphasized the need for proper maintenance and protection of the road network.

He urged motorists and all road users to fully comply with the new regulations for public safety and infrastructure preservation.

According to him, protecting the facility will extend its lifespan and ensure Nigerians continue to derive maximum value from the project.
