Nigeria and the Netherlands have reached a new trade facilitation agreement.
The agreement, signed between Nigeria Customs and its Dutch counterpart, aims to streamline trade, strengthen border security, enhance capacity building, and combat transnational organised crime.
According to customs spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada, the collaboration was finalized on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, in Brussels by Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi and Director-General Nanette van Schelven of Netherlands Customs.
In his remarks, Adeniyi noted that Dutch customs had shown the significant benefits of international cooperation in tackling emerging trade and border‑management challenges. He added that the partnership would strengthen intelligence sharing, boost capacity building, improve enforcement effectiveness, and support joint efforts to secure international supply chains while promoting legitimate trade.
CGC described the declaration as a major milestone in its international cooperation agenda and a testament to the strong relationship that has developed between the two customs administrations over recent years.
Mrs Nanette van Schelven, the Director-General of Netherlands Customs, said that both administrations confront similar challenges in an increasingly interconnected global trading environment.
She added that closer collaboration would foster mutual learning, enhance operational capabilities, and improve efforts to counter transnational organised crime, while supporting efficient and transparent trade processes.
