Paul Ibe, an aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, called on opposition leaders such as Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to form a coalition before the 2027 election after a Federal High Court overturned its earlier order to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political party.

In a Friday post on X, Ibe described the Lokoja court’s ruling as a “wake‑up call” for the opposition, claiming that President Bola Tinubu is moving toward a de facto one‑party state.

He said the decision indicated that the opposition had “no hiding place” and accused President Tinubu of attempting to weaken opposition parties before the 2027 election.

Ibe also alleged that Tinubu intended to “obliterate the opposition” if he could pursue his political agenda, warning that Nigeria’s democracy is at risk.

Nevertheless, he said it was still possible for opposition parties to combine their strengths before the 2027 elections, urging leaders like Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to collaborate if they aim to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ibe wrote: “The decision of the Federal High Court in Lokoja to set aside its earlier judgment on the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) should be a wake‑up call that there is no hiding place for the opposition as the incompetent and clueless Tinubu @officialABAT sets his sights on enthroning a de facto one‑party state.”

He added: “His message is loud and clear: he will obliterate the opposition and destroy our hard‑won democracy if he does not get his way in the 2027 election. It is not too late for the opposition to harmonize their strengths ahead of 2027 if the Yar’Adua 2.0 President Tinubu is to be retired to either Bourdillon or Iragbiji!”
