The media office of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), whose presidential candidate is Peter Obi, has called the Lokoja High Court ruling on the party’s registration a temporary setback, stating that the decision will be legally contested.
The statement, issued by Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) and signed by spokesperson Idris Zekeri Jnr, was released on Friday.
POMR said it has received a surge of inquiries from journalists and concerned Nigerians after the ruling.
The office urged Obi’s supporters, coalition partners, and the public to remain calm while its legal team completes a review of the judgment and prepares an appeal.
It added that it anticipates systemic obstacles in its effort to challenge the political establishment, seeing the court’s ruling as a temporary hurdle rather than a lasting setback to its goals.
“We have received the news of today’s bizarre ruling from the court in Lokoja regarding the legal status of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.”
“While our legal teams are thoroughly reviewing the judgment to initiate immediate corrective and appellate measures, our Principal urges all our supporters, coalition partners, and patriots nationwide to remain absolutely calm and focused,” the statement said.
The group said the decision would not alter its ultimate aim of creating an alternative political platform for Nigerians.
