A Nigerian man attracted considerable attention online after expressing a controversial view on marital infidelity and the differing standards he believes should apply to men and women.
He asserted that a married man may engage with multiple women provided he continues to financially support his wife and family at home.
In his words, he said:
“As a man, if your wife catches you cheating, you don’t even have to explain to her because you are not wrong. As a guy, you are entitled to as many women as you want.”
The man also argued that cheating should not be regarded as wrongdoing for men, claiming that women have no right to question their husbands when they are being adequately provided for.
He adopted a contrasting position for women, insisting that any married woman caught cheating should immediately return to her parents’ house.
“As long as you are providing for your wife at home, you can stay with any girl or woman you like. But as a woman, if you cheat, you dey go your papa house straight,” he added.
His remarks provoked strong backlash on social media, with many users condemning the views as unfair, outdated, and disrespectful toward women.
Some commentators, however, suggested that expectations within relationships vary across cultures and personal beliefs, fueling further online discussion.
