Lagos fixes June 29 start date for 2026 junior WAEC exam

The Lagos State Government has set the dates for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), commonly referred to as the Junior WAEC. The exam will begin on Monday, June 29, 2026, and finish on Monday, July 6, 2026.

The dates were announced by the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education through the Lagos State Examinations Board in a statement released on Thursday.

Mr. Adebayo Orunsolu, Registrar of the Lagos State Examinations Board, emphasized that the BECE is a critical milestone for students in the state. “The examination remains a significant academic milestone in the educational journey of students across the State,” he said.

Orunsolu urged parents, guardians and school administrators to review the examination timetable and comply with all board directives. He explained that the BECE is the official transition exam for students moving from Junior Secondary School to Senior Secondary School in both public and approved private schools throughout Lagos.

The registrar also highlighted the need for thorough preparation, noting that schools must ensure all eligible students are ready and meet the required standards. He assured stakeholders that the board has completed all administrative and logistical arrangements to conduct the exam smoothly across the state.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to exam integrity, Orunsolu reiterated a zero‑tolerance policy on malpractice. He warned that any form of examination misconduct, disruption or malpractice during the testing period would result in disciplinary action in line with existing regulations.
