The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command announced that it has arrested a wanted individual accused of supplying logistics and ammunition to bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists.
Commissioner of Police for the FCT, Mr. Ahmed Sanusi, made the statement at a press conference in Abuja on Friday.
Sanusi said the suspect, who had been on the command’s wanted list since 2023, was apprehended during a strategic, intelligence‑led operation conducted by FCT police officers.
According to the commissioner, the suspect was tracked and taken into custody on Tuesday while traveling on the Abuja‑Kaduna highway.
During the operation, police recovered 81 rounds of 7.62 mm live AK‑47 ammunition and 100 rounds of 7.62 mm belted ammunition for a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) from the suspect.
The command also reported that the arrest of the suspect, who was also wanted by other security agencies in several North Central states, led to the apprehension of his sister.
“The arrested sister of the suspect happened to be the wife of another wanted bandit, terrorising Kaduna and Niger States and currently at large,” Sanusi said.
“She has also been involved in the supply of ammunition to her brother for onward sale to terrorists and bandits,” the FCT commissioner added.
Preliminary investigations have linked the suspects to a network of logistics and ammunition suppliers that supports bandit and terrorist groups operating in Kaduna, Niger, and border communities in the FCT.
Sanusi also revealed that FCT police had arrested two suspects involved in a “one‑chance” robbery.
He said the arrests were part of the command’s ongoing efforts to eliminate violent crimes such as “one‑chance” robbery in the territory.
The suspects were taken into custody by officers of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) while on a routine anti‑crime patrol along Giri‑Lugbe Road on May 15.
According to the commissioner, the officers observed a young woman crying for help. When questioned, she reported that she had just been robbed by suspected “one‑chance” operators who stole her valuables and left her abandoned.
Responding quickly, the team launched a hot pursuit and intercepted a blue Volkswagen Golf with registration number SKK 567 AG carrying the two suspects.
During a search of the vehicle, police seized one laptop, one iPhone, one laptop charger, two knives, and scissors.
Sanusi pledged the command’s commitment to proactive policing and to ensuring the safety and security of FCT residents.
He urged citizens to remain vigilant and to report suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest police station or to the command through its emergency lines.
