Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot said that Cristiano Ronaldo once told him a striker at Old Trafford would not succeed at the club because the player lacked “fire” in his game.
Dalot made the remark in an article for the Players’ Tribune that was published on Friday.
The two teammates at United met after Ronaldo’s sensational return to the Premier League side. He left the club in December 2022 following a disagreement with manager Erik ten Hag.
Dalot reflected: “That season with Cristiano was when I really started to grow as a player and as a person. I lost count of the number of predictions he got right, because he knows so well what it takes to go to the top.”
He added, “If anyone skipped a set in the gym, he would notice. We had a striker here who did really well for us in his first season, but Cristiano said, ‘He’s not gonna make it here.’”
