The Department of State Services (DSS) has released farmer Nura Idris after an investigation determined he had no ties to Boko Haram.
According to Daily Nigerian, DSS Director‑General Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi ordered his release and approved a compensation payment of N3 million to aid his recovery and business.
Idris, a farmer and herder from Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was detained in Suleja, Niger State, in 2024 on allegations of links to terrorists before being transferred to DSS custody.
A DSS review panel found no evidence of terrorist affiliation, prompting an immediate release.
In a statement after his release, Idris thanked DSS leadership for his treatment in detention and said the compensation would help him rebuild his life.
Security officials said the DSS is re‑examining long‑held cases to ensure that innocent people are not kept in custody unnecessarily.
According to reports, more than 30 individuals whose cases were reviewed have received over N300 million in compensation, a move the DSS says demonstrates its commitment to protecting citizens’ rights while maintaining national security.
