Deputy Speaker, Kalu, wins APC ticket for 3rd term bid

Dr Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has been selected as the All Progressives Congress candidate for Bende Federal Constituency for the 2027 general elections.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Kalu secured the nomination unopposed in the party’s primary held on Saturday in Bende.

His bid for a third term was reinforced when members from all 13 wards of the constituency endorsed him.

The wards include Alayi, Bende, Ezeukwu, Igbere, Item, Itumbuzo, Nkpa, Ntalakwu, Ozuitem, Ugwueke, Umu-Imenyi, Umuhu-Ezechi, and Uzuakoli.

The affirmation process began at the ward level and attracted a substantial number of party members and stakeholders.

Ward executives, stakeholders and delegates commended Kalu for his leadership, legislative performance and dedication to grassroots development.

They noted that his unopposed emergence reflected the confidence and trust placed in him by APC members and constituents.

After the affirmation, Kalu thanked party faithful, community leaders, youth and women groups, and other constituents for their ongoing support.

He vowed to continue attracting democratic dividends, promote inclusive governance, and implement policies that improve welfare and expand economic opportunities.

“I will continue to provide quality representation and sustain developmental initiatives aimed at uplifting communities across Bende Federal Constituency,” he said.

Earlier, Mr Erasmus Cishak, chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Election Committee for Abia, assured members and aspirants of a peaceful, transparent, and hassle‑free process statewide.

Cishak stressed that the committee would maintain fairness and credibility and urged aspirants, delegates and stakeholders to act responsibly and follow the rules.
