Adamawa State, previously noted only for residents who consume illicit drugs and banned substances, now also hosts growers of these substances.
The state command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced on Friday that its operatives had destroyed three cannabis farms.

During a ceremony in Yola commemorating the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, NDLEA state commander Aliyu Abubakar revealed that the agency had discovered a 1.5‑hectare cannabis farm in Mayo Belwa and 1‑hectare farms in both Mubi South and Mubi North local government areas, all of which were destroyed by his officers.

He also highlighted other accomplishments of his command since June 2025, noting the arrest of 583 drug suspects and the conviction of 270.

Additionally, he announced that his command had seized five tonnes of substances—including tramadol, diazepam, codeine, and methamphetamine—commonly referred to as ‘ice’.

Both the NDLEA commander and guest speaker Dr. Stephen John emphasized the detrimental role of drugs in crime, noting that individuals rarely commit robbery, kidnapping, or assault without first being intoxicated by drugs.

The guest speaker cautioned that criminals are adopting more advanced methods and weapons, urging governments to strengthen their strategies to protect the nation.
