Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State convened with APC aspirants who are vying for the party’s nominations for various elective offices.

He called on them to adopt loyalty, discipline and sacrifice as they prepare for the primaries scheduled to begin today, May 15, 2026.

During a gathering at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Owerri, which was attended by aspirants and party stakeholders, the governor said politics is not a lottery but a test of courage, noting that some will win and others will lose.

He cautioned against desperation and urged aspirants to stay loyal to the party throughout the pre‑primary, primary, and post‑primary phases.

He likened the contest to a game and warned aspirants to assess all risks before entering, so they do not spend money earmarked for their children’s school fees on campaign forms.

The governor announced that the primaries would use the Option A4 voting system to guarantee transparency and prevent allegations of favoritism when consensus cannot be reached.

He also urged aspirants and stakeholders to observe equity and rotation principles where applicable in their communities, and assured that the APC has established a Primaries Conduct Committee and an Appeal Committee to address any grievances.

He lamented the large number of aspirants for various elective positions, emphasizing the need for a process that benefits all participants.

During his address, State Chairman Austin Onyedebelu reiterated the APC’s dedication to unity, reconciliation, and electoral success in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

He added that the State Executive Committee has taken steps to reposition the party for greater efficiency, unity, and progress.

Onyedebelu acknowledged that grievances could arise from the primaries but said reconciliation mechanisms have been established to ensure a conflict‑free process.
