Orji Uzor Kalu, the senator for Abia North Senatorial District, secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary, defeating his sole opponent, Philip Nto.
Kalu received 65,651 votes, while Nto, a lecturer at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture in Umudike, garnered 2,103 votes.
The direct primary took place on Monday across the five local government areas and 57 wards of Abia North, drawing large participation from party members and resulting in a decisive victory for the former Senate Chief Whip.

The APC Primary Election Committee released the results, confirming that the exercise covered all 57 wards in the district.
On Monday in Umuahia, Mr. Chinedu Christian Kanu, Chairman of the Abia North Senatorial National Assembly Primary Election Committee, announced the outcomes and affirmed that the primary was conducted peacefully, transparently, and credibly.
He highlighted the substantial turnout of APC members in the direct primary, which was designed to select candidates who will represent the party in the 2027 general elections.
