Ibrahim Bomai, a senator for Yobe South and a candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Yobe State, has withdrawn from the 2027 election race.
Bomai announced his decision in a statement released on Saturday after consulting with party stakeholders, political associates, and supporters throughout the state.
He said the withdrawal followed extensive discussions and interventions by party leaders and was made to promote unity and stability ahead of the 2027 elections.
Bomai explained that his initial ambition to run for governor was motivated by a desire to contribute to the development, peace, and unity of Yobe State.
The senator expressed gratitude to his supporters for their loyalty, sacrifices, and commitment during the political process.
“After extensive consultations, deep reflection, and discussions with stakeholders and respected elders, I have decided to step down from contesting the governorship position for Yobe State,” he said.
Bomai urged his supporters to remain calm, united, and dedicated to the state’s progress despite his withdrawal.
The announcement follows the recent decisions of two other APC governorship aspirants—Lawan Kolo Geidam and former Inspector-General of Police Usman Alkali Baba—to also step down from the race.
