South Africa head coach Hugo Broos commended his team's resilience and overall performance following a 1-1 draw with Czechia, Completesports.com reports.
Bafana Bafana secured a 1-1 draw against Miroslav Koubek’s Czech side in their second Group A match at the Atlanta Stadium on Thursday night.
Similar to their opening match against Mexico, South Africa conceded early when Michal Sadilek scored after six minutes.
Adam Hlozek delivered a cross from the right, which Alexandr Sojka’s team set up for Sadilek, who struck past Williams.
Czechia seemed poised for a win until Pavel Sulc was penalised for a handball with ten minutes remaining.
Teboho Mokoena calmly converted the penalty, sending Matej Kovar the wrong way and earning South Africa a point.
Broos Proud Of Bafana Bafana
Broos expressed delight with his side’s performance in the hard‑fought match.
I’m very proud of my team. This is Bafana Bafana – we love good football, we are aggressive, we create chances. Yes, we made mistakes, but I’m very proud of the performance today,
Broos said, quoted by FIFA.com
Czechia are powerful and very tall. We did very well. It’s a little pity that it’s only 1-1, but we must win the game against the Republic of Korea, which will also be very difficult. If we play with the same mentality, it will be possible.
