Why Chelsea Have Advantage In FA Cup Final — Guardiola

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has warned that the team’s demanding fixture list could give Chelsea an edge in Saturday’s FA Cup final.

While City fight to close the gap on Premier League leaders Arsenal, their slim title prospects will pause this weekend as they travel to Wembley to chase a cup double.

After defeating Arsenal in the League Cup final in March, Guardiola’s side faced Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Wednesday and will return to league action only three days after the FA Cup clash, when they play Bournemouth.

Despite making six changes for the 3‑0 victory over Palace, which left City two points adrift of Arsenal with two games remaining, the Spaniard fears fatigue may impact his squad in the final.

“After the FA Cup, it is Bournemouth; we play every three days. Chelsea have a week at home training, preparing for the final,” he said on Sky Sports.

“We have to travel to London. They will be at home with their wife and kids. So that is fatigue and fatigue and fatigue.”

Guardiola eased the physical load by starting with Erling Haaland, Rayan Cherki and Jeremy Doku on the bench against Palace.

“I have full confidence in all the squad, including those who didn’t play against Palace. They are so good,” Guardiola said.

“I thought we needed more energy. Savinho, Antoine Semenyо, and Omar Marmoush were really good. Now we rest and focus on the final.”

City are in the FA Cup final for a record fourth consecutive season, though they were defeated in the previous two finals, by Crystal Palace in 2025 and by Manchester United two years earlier.

Guardiola has lifted the FA Cup twice, in 2019 and 2023, and a third victory would bring his tally of trophies at City to 20.
