A former senator, Babafemi Ojudu, recounted the political turmoil that shook the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State during the tenure of former Governor Kayode Fayemi.

Ojudu reflected on the internal disputes that erupted within the party in 2020.

He said that he and several political allies openly criticized Fayemi’s administration, a stance that, according to him, eventually prompted attempts to oust them from the party.

Ojudu alleged that ward executives were coerced into collecting signatures for expulsions, and that other party members and supporters—including former senator Tony Adeniyi, Oyetunde Ojo, and Bimbo Daramola—were also affected during the crisis.

The former lawmaker further claimed that the chairman of his ward, identified as Clement Afolabi, was threatened, arrested, and detained for refusing to back the expulsion efforts.

“In response, we moved to suspend the governor himself and publicized the action widely. Matters escalated dangerously until the national leadership of the party intervened and appealed to both sides to sheath their swords,” Ojudu said.

Ojudu also alleged that security agencies became involved over accusations of criminal libel, and that their lawyers challenged the move.
