The United States has imposed sanctions on eight vessels that were involved in the transport of Iranian crude oil and petroleum products.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the action on Thursday.

Among the sanctioned ships are the oil tanker Flora, registered in the Marshall Islands; the oil tanker Hauncayo, flagged in the Comoros; and the tanker Ill Gap, registered in Panama.

"We will not allow the Iranian government to increase its oil revenue for the purpose of reconstituting its armed forces and military capabilities," Bessent said.

Earlier, he had also announced sanctions targeting Iranian airlines and the country’s self-proclaimed Persian Gulf Strait Authority.

U.S. State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott explained that the new measures will cut off billions in revenue that fund the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, proxy forces, and attacks on U.S. partners.

Pigott warned that any entity trading Iranian oil faces serious risk of U.S. sanctions.
