According to reports, two marine customs officers were killed in the Gendene community of Bagudu Local Government Area, Kebbi State, by gunmen believed to be members of the Lakurawa group.

The attack took place at approximately 3 a.m. on Wednesday, when the officers were stationed at a checkpoint.

Resident Bello Shata, who spoke with a correspondent, said a three‑star officer among the victims was burned alive after the attackers set fire to the area where he was sleeping.

When approached for comment, Mustapha Mubarak, public relations officer of the Kebbi State Police Command, neither confirmed nor denied the incident, stating, “We will issue a statement once we get the full report.”

Vanguard also learned that the assailants destroyed the officers’ patrol vehicle and opened fire on two villagers—a woman and a man—who are now receiving treatment at an undisclosed health facility in the area.
