A proposed agreement between the United States and Iran that seeks to end the conflict in the Middle East is expected to be formally signed on Friday at the Burgenstock resort in Switzerland, the Swiss foreign ministry said.

Swiss authorities confirmed that the signing ceremony will take place on June 19 at the luxury mountain resort overlooking Lake Lucerne.

On Sunday, Iran and the United States announced that they had reached a memorandum of understanding designed to halt the conflict that began on February 28 after coordinated U.S.–Israeli strikes on Iran, which later escalated across the region.

In a statement, the Swiss foreign ministry said, “At this stage, the signing is scheduled for Friday, June 19, at Burgenstock.”

The ministry explained that the venue was suggested by mediators from Pakistan and Qatar, along with representatives of Washington and Tehran.

It added that Switzerland’s role in the process was to provide the diplomatic and logistical environment required for the meeting to take place on its territory.

Burgenstock, a high‑security resort situated above Lake Lucerne in central Switzerland, was deemed suitable for the talks because of its secluded location and controlled access routes.

The planned agreement follows several weeks of tense negotiations and growing fears of renewed military confrontation in the region.

A senior U.S. official reportedly disclosed that the framework agreement had already been electronically endorsed by Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Iran’s deputy foreign minister, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who served as Tehran’s lead negotiator.

However, the contents of the agreement have yet to be released publicly, leaving uncertainty over the exact terms reached by both sides.

The negotiations were said to have been complicated by disagreements over Iran’s nuclear programme, economic sanctions and issues surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.
