The Bauchi State Police Command intervened to prevent mob violence after a confrontation involving a motorcyclist and worshippers at a Catholic church in Bogoro Local Government Area.

Police sources told security expert Zagazola Makama that the incident took place on Sunday in Jigawa Village Mine, following a report from the Officer-in-Charge of the Gobbiya Outstation.

According to the sources, a passer‑by named Ibrahim Mohammed, 30, from Kangere village in Bauchi Local Government Area, was riding a motorcycle when he tried to pass through an area where a church service was underway.

He was reportedly stopped by church members who were on duty, but the situation escalated after he allegedly refused to comply with their instructions.

During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly brandished a machete and injured three worshippers—Shalom Simon, 27; Tsamani Iliya, 35; and Ibrahim Emmanuel, 29—who are all from Jigawa village.

After the attack, alarm was raised and the suspect was overpowered by community members, sustaining injuries during the mob action.

Police operatives were quickly dispatched to the scene upon receiving the report.

The injured were taken to the State Specialist Hospital in Bogoro, where they are currently receiving treatment.

Police authorities said they were working to prevent further escalation and possible retaliatory attacks, and assured residents that the situation had been brought under control.
