Plateau State Police Command has detained a suspected kidnapper and seized an AK‑47 rifle in Bokkos Local Government Area as part of its ongoing campaign to curb criminal activity across the state.

The arrest followed intelligence reports about the activities of suspected kidnappers operating in the area.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Alfred Alabo, officers attached to Bokkos Division acted on credible information and carried out the operation in the early hours of Sunday, June 21.

The statement said the officers arrested Riwa Usman, 45, in Langshi Village, Ampang East, Bokkos LGA.

During the preliminary investigation, the suspect reportedly identified himself as a resident of Gargadi Village, Bogoro Local Government Area, Bauchi State, and claimed he was returning with his cows from Doka Village, Quan’an Pan Local Government Area.

A search of the suspect’s motorcycle yielded an AK‑47 rifle with breech number 11/6209002, an empty magazine, a cutlass and a knife.

The Command added that the suspect remains in custody while investigators work to determine the firearm’s source and identify other possible members of the alleged criminal network.

Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, CP Bassey Ewah, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with relevant security agencies and local residents to improve security across the state.

The Command also urged the public to continue providing credible and timely information to support efforts aimed at combating crime and maintaining public safety.
