Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have detained one suspect linked to an armed robbery that targeted female students of the Adamawa State Polytechnic in Yola.

The robbery took place in the early hours of May 28, 2026. Armed hoodlums reportedly broke into a residence used by the students behind the MOPE Extension in Numan Local Government Area, forcibly seizing cash, mobile phones, power banks and other valuables.

The police issued the correction on Friday, clarifying that the incident did not occur at the female hostel of the Numan Campus as earlier reports had suggested.

According to a statement from spokesperson SP Suleiman Nguroje, the police received a distress call, after which operatives from the Divisional Police Headquarters in Demsa rushed to the scene, carried out preliminary investigations, and began a manhunt for the perpetrators.

The command confirmed that one suspect has been arrested, while efforts continue to locate other members of the gang who remain at large.

“The Commissioner of Police has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case to ensure a thorough and discreet investigation,” Nguroje said.
