The Plateau State Police Command has begun enforcing vehicle registration laws and addressing improper use of number plates throughout the state.

In a press statement signed by SP Alfred Alabo, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Commissioner of Police Bassey Ewah noted that the operation follows the directive of Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu.

He added that the effort targets security issues linked to unregistered vehicles, concealed, defaced, or altered number plates, unauthorized foreign registration plates, and other non‑compliance that obstruct vehicle identification and tracking.

He reported that fourteen vehicles have already been impounded for violations.

Owners and operators have been referred to court for offenses including the use of unregistered vehicles, possession of vehicles with covered or defaced number plates, unauthorized display of foreign number plates, and replacement of approved registration plates with manufacturer logos or other unauthorized inscriptions.

The Command reiterated that the enforcement is a proactive security measure designed to prevent criminals from exploiting improperly registered vehicles or obscured identities to evade detection, and to ensure all vehicles comply with legal standards.

Ewah instructed officers to uphold professionalism, fairness, and strict adherence to the rule of law.

He assured the public that the operation aims to enhance public safety and strengthen crime prevention, not to inconvenience law‑abiding citizens.

The Command urged vehicle owners and motorists in the state to register vehicles promptly and keep clearly visible, valid number plates as required by law. Violators will face appropriate legal action.

The statement emphasized that the Plateau State Police Command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property and thanks residents for their support in building a safer Plateau.
