Residents of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, organized interfaith prayers through the Omo Aj’orosun Club to seek the swift release of students and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area.
The club said the prayers were also intended to confront the ongoing insecurity affecting the historic city and Nigeria as a whole.
Participants explained that the interfaith prayers were deemed necessary due to the challenges confronting the historic city and the nation.
Held on Saturday as part of the club’s 46th anniversary celebrations, the program drew leaders of Christian, Islamic and traditional faiths.
The Christian service was led by Venerable Sammi Adetule, pastor of the Anglican Church of Ascension in Akobo, Ibadan. The Muslim prayer was conducted by Imam Saheed Odekunle, Chief Imam of Titilope Central Mosque in Airport, Alakia, Ibadan, and the traditional faith service was led by Dr Fayemi Fatunde Fakayode.
Club president Mogaji Kamaldeen Adeniyi Salaudeen told journalists that the prayers were organized to seek divine intervention for the release of the abducted students and teachers.
He added that the program also aimed to invoke God’s mercy for protection, peace and harmony in Ibadan, Oyo State and Nigeria.
Salaudeen said, “The rationale for this programme is that we observed all the things that are going on in the city and other parts of the country. We are aware of all the things that are happening. Although we have to celebrate Omo Aj’orosun Club, we said we have
