Nigeria secured a total of 16 medals at the 2026 Confederation of African Cycling Para‑Track and Track Championships held in Abuja, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The event took place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome and featured elite cyclists from Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Algeria and the host nation.
After two days of racing, Nigeria topped the medal table with nine gold, five silver and two bronze medals, outpacing several of Africa’s traditional cycling powers.
Egypt placed second with 14 medals, while Kenya ranked third with nine.
South Africa and Algeria rounded out the top five.
The Nigerian team’s strong showings were met with enthusiastic support from spectators at the velodrome, as riders demonstrated speed, endurance and technical skill throughout the competition.
Officials also praised the quality of the Abuja facilities, noting that the velodrome provided a high‑standard venue for continental contests.
Nigeria previously hosted the championships in 2021 and 2023, reinforcing its growing reputation as a key hub for African cycling events.
This edition attracted more than 100 cyclists from eight countries, all competing for medals, ranking points and continental recognition.
