Neymar and Thiago Silva have been named in Brazil’s 55‑player provisional squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup**, while the injured Estevao was omitted.

New Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti released an expanded list ahead of the tournament, with only 26 players expected to be selected for the final roster for the competition in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Estevao was ruled out after sustaining a hamstring injury during Chelsea’s Premier League match against Manchester United last month.

Former Chelsea coach Liam Rosenior earlier disclosed that the teenager was emotionally affected by the setback.

“He was devastated” and “crying at half‑time,” Rosenior said after the game.

Injury blow ends Estevao’s hopes

The 19‑year‑old forward had remained hopeful of recovering in time for the tournament and returned to Brazil for treatment with his former club Palmeiras.

Brazilian reports indicated the youngster avoided surgery, but a subsequent setback in his rehabilitation ultimately ended his chances of selection.

Estevao had emerged as one of Brazil’s most promising young talents after becoming the first player aged 18 or younger to score four goals for the national team since the 1960s.

Despite an uneven debut season in England, he recorded eight goals and four assists across all competitions, including notable performances against Barcelona and Liverpool.

Neymar returns as Brazil finalise plans

Neymar’s inclusion comes even though the forward has struggled with injuries over the past three years. The 34‑year‑old has not played for Brazil since 2023.

Veteran defender Thiago Silva also secured a spot in the provisional squad after helping Porto capture the Portuguese league title this season.

Rodrygo and Éder Militão were left out due to injury.

Brazil will open their World Cup campaign against Morocco on June 16, followed by matches with Haiti and Scotland in Group C.
