He described Messi as his idol, a wonderful friend, and someone whose off‑pitch character is truly special.
“He is good on the field, imagine him off it. He’s a great friend. He knows I care about him a lot,” Neymar told DSPORTS on its X handle.
Neymar and Messi first played together at Barcelona from 2013 to 2017. Joined by Luis Suárez, they formed one of the most feared attacking trios in world football.
During those four seasons, Barcelona secured two La Liga titles, three Copa del Rey crowns, the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup.
The duo reunited at Paris Saint‑Germain in 2021, spending two seasons together in France. They helped PSG win two Ligue 1 titles and the Trophée des Champions before Messi departed in 2023.
Recall that Neymar officially made his first appearance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, coming off the bench in the 76th minute during Brazil’s 3‑0 victory over Scotland in Miami on 24 June 2026.
