Former Nigeria international Mutiu Adepoju has publicly stated that he does not support the proposal of Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen taking on the role of captain for the national team.
With the retirements of William Troost-Ekong and Ahmed Musa from international duty, the position of skipper has become open to other players.
Osimhen has been mentioned among several candidates who could assume the team's leadership responsibilities.
Ultimately, Wilfred Ndidi was chosen as the Super Eagles captain, while Osimhen and Moses Simon were named vice‑captains.
When asked whether Osimhen should be appointed captain, Adepoju told PM Parrot: “Leadership requires more than talent.”
“A captain must possess playing quality, leadership ability, emotional control, and the capacity to represent and unite the team both on and off the pitch,” he added.
“Anyone who cannot tolerate others or control their behaviour cannot effectively lead.”
