Abubakar Malami, former Attorney‑General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has been selected as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Kebbi State.
The decision was announced on Sunday by Mohammed Doka, Malami’s special assistant on media, in a statement posted on the former minister’s X account.
In the statement, Malami thanked party leaders, stakeholders and supporters for the confidence and support he received as he pursues the election.
The ADC also confirmed its nominees for other key positions in the state. Retired military officer Aminu Bande was chosen as the party’s candidate for Kebbi Central Senatorial District, retired Deputy Comptroller‑General Ibrahim Mera received the ticket for Kebbi North, and Garba Danjuma was selected for Kebbi South Senatorial District.
Doka said Malami remains focused on providing effective leadership, fostering good governance, and tackling issues of justice, security and development in Kebbi State.
“Together, with unity and determination, we shall build a more prosperous future for generations to come,” the statement read.
Malami first announced his intention to contest the governorship in November 2025, arguing that the state needed relief from hardship and escalating insecurity, which he attributed to the current administration.
